Level Up Your Remote Work Routine: The 30-Day Blog Challenge

4–6 minutes

After reflecting on One Month of Blogging, I decided it was time to take this venture a little more seriously in March. As a Writing Coach, I often share the importance of external accountability factors and so in the pursuit of success, I’ve decided to not only commit to a March Blogging Challenge but invite you to join me in doing it!

Why Remote Workers Should Blog

As a freelance writer, growing my blog is an intentional decision to move towards the long-term goal of an additional stream of income and acting as a new client lead, but that isn’t the only reason I’m pursuing it. As you can read here, From Screen to Page: Rewriting My Story, travel has played an unrivaled role in my life. It acts as not only an inspiration for my posts but a motivation. I am committing to this blog as part of a greater commitment to live a life of freedom, creativity, and fulfillment.

As a blogger, you can work from anywhere with an internet connection, allowing you to travel the world while continuing to generate income. Building a successful blog with a loyal audience can create passive income streams through advertising, sponsored content, and affiliate marketing, providing a writer the financial means to support their nomadic lifestyle. Blogging also allows you to share your experiences, insights, and expertise with a global audience, opening up opportunities for collaboration, networking, and even new remote work opportunities.

The 30 Day Challenge

Committing to a 30 day challenge can be a powerful catalyst for personal growth and transformation. By setting a specific goal and dedicating yourself to it, you create a structured plan to make progress toward an end goal. To achieve our large goals, we have to start with lots of small steps. In a challenge like this, every day represents a smaller goal, meaning by the end of March I will have quantifiably moved closer to my dreams.

One of the biggest barriers to entry with a creative project is simply starting! We have to find the motivation to get going with zero momentum behind us which can often feel impossible. A 30 day challenge, however, provides a sense of urgency and accountability due to its limited timeframe. By completing the 30 day challenge, you can also build confidence, resilience, and momentum, laying the foundation for long-term habits and success.

The Goal

I’m setting this challenge specifically for those early in their blogging career looking to improve in the following areas:

  • Grow Monthly Blog Visits
  • Gain Better SEO Results
  • Adopt a New Writing Routine

I had 200 total views in my first month of blogging. In March I want to double this with more leads from search-engine clicks and Social Media. The key to this is going to come from consistency. I’ve been posting three times a week and don’t want to slow down on that number which means I have to get more regimented with writing and constant content production. Beyond the words, I want to integrate the creation of visual assets for Pinterest and LinkedIn. That’s a lot of work.

March Blogging Challenge Guidelines

Time for the rules. In March I commit to:

  • Writing one new blog post every weekday
  • Posting three times a week on my blog
  • Posting once a week on LinkedIn
  • Upload to Pinterest every day
  • Record weekly stats

To achieve this I’ll be setting aside 2 hours every morning for writing and content creation. My goal is to end the month having written 20 blog posts, 12 of which will be posted and the remaining 8 scheduled to be posted in the following months.

Why Post Your Blog to Pinterest

Pinterest is the true experiment of March. In February the only Social Media I’ve used is LinkedIn with some impressive results. Now let’s try something new. I believe posting to Pinterest could be advantageous for several reasons. Firstly, Pinterest is a highly visual platform, making it ideal for showcasing visual content such as blog post graphics, infographics, and images that are otherwise taking too much time to make with little reward. Secondly, Pinterest has a large and active user base, providing a vast audience for content. This means Pinterest can increase the visibility of your blog posts and attract more visitors to your website. As Pinterest allows users to save and share content, your pins can continue to be repinned by other users over time leading to increased exposure and traffic weeks and months after the post is originally shared.

How to Use Pinterest to Grow Your Blog

After researching the methods and approaches to using Pinterest to grow your blog, here is the strategy I’ve decided to use. Check back in April to see the results!

  1. Make a Business Pinterest Account and link your website.
  2. Create 10 Pinterest Boards on your blog’s pillar topics and themes then add 10-15 pins per board, choose a cover image, and add a description.
  3. Use Canva to create 2 visually appealing graphics or pins per blog post.
  4. Optimise your pins by including relevant keywords in the pin description and title to improve their visibility in Pinterest search results.
  5. Join group boards related to your blog niche and share your pins there to reach a larger audience.

As always, it’s important to remember the chief SEO component: Consistency. Make sure to regularly schedule pins to keep your content visible and drive ongoing traffic to your blog.

Here’s what I’ve created for this post:

In the name of accountability, I’ll be checking in next month with the results of this challenge. My hope is to have a better writing routine, understanding of SEO, and backlog of posts ready to be shared.
